Official Rules
The following information provides the official rules of the 2023 Read Across America Sweepstakes:
SPONSOR: National Education Association (NEA), 1201 16th Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20036.
PRIZE DETAILS: One (1) winner will designate one (1) United States public school to win one (1) set of RAA elementary calendar books – 17 books total. Each book has a retail value of up to $17.99 per copy. Maximum prize value is $400.
ENTRY PERIOD: The Entry Period for the 2023 Read Across America Sweepstakes (“Sweepstakes”) begins on January 9, 2023, at 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time and ends on January 31, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
ELIGIBILITY: NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER. Sweepstakes is open to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia who are eighteen (18) years of age or older. Employees of the National Education Association and its respective subsidiaries, affiliates, distributors, promotion and advertising agencies, and members of their immediate families (spouse and parent, children and siblings and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) and persons living in the same household, whether or not related, of such employees, are not eligible to enter or win. Void where prohibited by law. Sweepstakes is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws.
HOW TO ENTER: During the Entry Period, text BOOK to 48744 to receive one entry. Only one (1) entry is allowed per person.
SELECTION OF WINNERS AND ODDS OF WINNING: One (1) potential winner will be selected in a random drawing from among all eligible entries received through the nea.org platform. Drawing will be held on February 1, 2023. Odds of winning depend upon the total number of eligible entries overall that are received for the Sweepstakes. Any attempts to exceed the limit of number of entries into the Sweepstakes by any method, including but not limited to, using multiple email addresses or accounts or robotic entries, are prohibited, and NEA reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to disqualify all suspect entries. An individual may not enter on behalf of another individual or transfer their entry to another person. An individual may be required to show proof of ownership of their accounts used to enter the Sweepstakes. A potential winner will be notified by email, at the email address entered during the entry process, by February 4, 2023. If the potential winner cannot be contacted within three (3) days after the first attempt to contact them, an alternate participant may be selected in their place at random from all eligible entries received. The potential winner is subject to verification by NEA or its designee, including the potential winner’s name, residential address, telephone number, email address and valid photo ID. NEA will not accept screen shots or other evidence of winning in lieu of its validation process. The potential winner may also be required to sign a declaration or affidavit of eligibility and liability release (and, where permitted, a publicity release) concerning the prize. If any potential winner is not verified by NEA, cannot be contacted within three days, fails to return any and all requested documentation within three days from notification (whether or not such potential winner actually receives that notification), is otherwise ineligible, or refuses the prize, then such potential winner forfeits the prize in its entirety.
AWARDING THE PRIZE: The Sweepstakes winner will be asked to confirm the public school they want to receive the prize and the school's contact information. The prize will be made available to the winning school on or around March 2nd, 2023.
PARTICIPANT’S PERSONAL INFORMATION: By entering the Sweepstakes, you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information for the purpose of administering the Sweepstakes. You may also have the opportunity to sign up to receive promotional emails from parties associated with the Sweepstakes; your choice to consent to such emails or to opt out of such emails in the future does not impact your chances of winning. To the full extent permitted by law, the name, address (city and state), image and biographical information of winners may be used by NEA for promotional purposes and a published winners list. WINNERS LIST: The winner’s name and the designated public school will be announced on NEA.org. The name of the winner and designated public school can also be obtained by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to: NEA 2022 Read Across America Sweepstakes Winner, 1201 16th Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20036. Requests must be postmarked within ninety (90) days after the end of the Entry Period. The winner list will be sent to requesting parties after selection and verification of a winner.
