Washington - NEA President Lily Eskelsen García today issued the following statement in response to the immigration principles released by the White House late Sunday night.
“The livelihood of hundreds of thousands of aspiring Americans – including 20,000 educators working with our students every day in our nation’s public schools – are at stake because of the Trump administration’s unilateral decision to rescind DACA.
“More to the point, what will happen to the students that these aspiring Americans are educating?
“This moment warrants seriousness. Sadly, the White House principles issued late Sunday night were anything but serious. The clock is ticking for these Dreamers. Congress needs to act now to protect DACA and to provide the certainty our Dreamers deserve.
“We again call on Congress to show the leadership the White House refuses to display and swiftly pass the Dream Act of 2017.”
