WASHINGTON—As the new school year gets underway across the country, the National Education Association today announced its first-ever “Read Across America Sweepstakes.” Eligible participants in the sweepstakes will have the chance to win a free set of books from the 2021-2022 Read Across America calendar—for every class in the public school of their choice!
The following statement can be attributed to NEA President Becky Pringle:
“Everyone – no matter their race or place – deserves to see themselves represented in the books they read at their public school. That is why our Read Across America calendar highlights books as diverse as the students who we hope will read them. Winning the first-ever ‘Read Across America Sweepstakes’ not only brings new books into the classrooms, but also opens new worlds and experiences to students. We can’t wait to deliver a new set of books to a great public school.
“Enter our sweepstakes right away to make the free set of Read Across America yours! If we are going to create more lifelong readers, more writers, more thinkers, and more people who understand that the world is far richer than just their experiences alone, we need to provide kids with books that are as diverse and complex as the society in which we live. That’s what Read Across America is all about.”
The Read Across America Sweepstakes are part of the latest NEA year-round effort to connect students with diverse books and the joys of reading beyond a single-day event. In August, NEA unveiled its latest list of recommended children’s and Young Adult books, as well as its popular Read Across America digital calendar.
Entering the 2021 Read Across America Sweepstakes is easy: Participants just need to fill out the form on this page between September 23, 2021, at 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time and October 7, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time and select the public school of their choice to enter. Only one entry is allowed per person—but the more people who submit from a school, the more likely their school will win.
