NEA celebrates launch of Educators for Biden-Harris

As the most trusted voices in every community, educators are fired up to reelect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris
Published: April 19, 2024

Hundreds of public school educators today will join with First Lady Jill Biden, a lifelong educator and NEA member, National Education Association President Becky Pringle, and American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten in Bloomington, Minnesota to launch the 2024 Educators for Biden-Harris coalition.

“In a time when some extreme politicians are focused on banning books and taking away needed resources from students, President Joe Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, and Vice President Kamala Harris have been leading life-changing efforts to get students the one-on-one support they need, keeping students and educators safe from gun violence, expanding school-based mental health programs, and addressing educator shortages. The 3 million members of the National Education Association know we have a seat at the table in this important partnership, and we enthusiastically support the re-election of President Biden and Vice President Harris,” said National Education Association President Becky Pringle. “Educators across the country are ready and working hard to re-elect President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. They are tireless advocates for America’s students and wake up every day focused on partnering with educators and parents to ensure every student – no matter their race, place, or background - has quality public schools where they can grow into their full brilliance.”

NEA members are fired up to re-elect President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris:

  • The National Education Association was one of the earliest labor unions to support Joe Biden – both in 2020 and 2024.
  • As some of the most trusted messengers in every community, educators across the nation are fired up and ready to re-elect President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Since April 2023, when NEA recommended Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, NEA members have been speaking to their colleagues, neighbors, friends, and family about the importance of the 2024 election. NEA members are already spending their evenings and weekends participating in phone banks and text message campaigns, and utilizing relational organizing tools to amplify the Biden-Harris vision and administration’s accomplishments for our students, educators, public schools, and communities – and will continue to do so through November.
  • NEA has developed robust digital resources to help educators learn more about the Biden-Harris record, including the Biden-Harris Public Education Quiz. NEA also launched a candidate comparison tool in English and Spanish to show the contrast between President Biden’s accomplishments and vision with Donald Trump’s failure on key education issues, and are already working to ensure that educators make a plan to vote in this November’s election.

Power of NEA Members in elections:

  • The 3-million member strong National Education Association has affiliates in every state and in more than 14,000 communities across the United States.
  • One in 100 Americans is an NEA member. Those deep roots in every community means NEA can turn out voters and contribute to margins of victory in battleground states and in key races across the country.
  • In 2020, one in every 28 voters nationwide came from an NEA household. Ninety-six percent of NEA members voted in the 2020 elections, which means NEA members outperformed the general public in voter turnout by 23.4%.
  • As the largest labor union in the country, and as a union whose membership is 76% women, we have a powerful role to play in this election. NEA is working to ensure the voice of our members is heard and respected in the halls of power, starting at the ballot box.
