WASHINGTON – October 22, 2020 – NEA President Becky Pringle released the following statement reacting to tonight’s Presidential Debate:
“In tonight’s debate, Americans clearly saw why we need Joe Biden as our next president. Joe Biden displayed the empathy and strength we need in the White House. He clearly laid out his plan to lead our nation out of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is disproportionately killing Black and Brown Americans. He discussed how he would turn to scientists and doctors when making public health decisions and listen to educators and parents on how best to support our students during and coming out of these tough times. He will prioritize the health and safety of students, educators and parents.
“They heard Joe Biden passionately explain how he will restore the soul of America by working to ensure that all Americans, no matter our race, accent or ZIP code have a fair shot by tackling the entrenched inequities that have plagued our nation for too long.
“Donald Trump has failed as president. He has failed to lead the nation through this crisis, and is responsible for not taking the pandemic seriously that has killed over 220,000 deaths and ushered in an economic crisis that has left millions unemployed, including 835,000 public school educators. He has failed us by embracing white supremacy one dog whistle at a time and ignoring the systemic racism that has for too long plagued this nation.
“The choice in this election couldn’t be more clear, which is why NEA members are doing everything possible to ensure their friends and neighbors vote for Joe Biden between now and Election Day.”
