WASHINGTON - National Education Association President Lily Eskelsen García today called on the Senate HELP Committee to reject Eugene Scalia's nomination to serve as Donald Trump’s Secretary of Labor in advance of the committee’s consideration of the nomination tomorrow:
“America’s working families need a champion to fight for us as Secretary of Labor. Eugene Scalia has spent a career attacking working people and undermining collective bargaining rights – the same rights educators rely on to advocate for stronger public schools for their students. He has made millions of dollars defending the indefensible for giant corporations, including actions that harmed workers, while protecting sexual harassers and berating the victims of harassment. By nominating Eugene Scalia to run the Department of Labor, Donald Trump is sadly showing us he only cares about pleasing those who can afford to winter at Mar-a-Lago or host events at one of Trump’s properties.
“Confirming Scalia is no different than leaving the fox to guard the henhouse. That is why educators and working families today are calling on the Senate to reject his nomination.”
