All Workers Deserve Workplace Safety and Health Protections

In almost half the states, public-sector workers lack the safety and health protections that private-sector workers have under federal law.

Urge your representative to cosponsor the Public Sector Worker Protection Act

The Occupational Safety and Health Act was a major evolution in worker protections when Congress passed it 54 years ago. But while the legislation remains a significant achievement, its workplace protections do not apply equally to all state and local government employees. The Public Sector Worker Protection Act, H.R.8758, would fix this.

In 22 states and Washington, D.C., public-sector workers are not covered by the Occupational Safety and Health Act. That leaves 8 million people who work for state and local governments—including those who teach and support students—without the same guarantee of health and safety protections that private-sector workers have.

The Public Sector Worker Protection Act would ensure that public-sector workers across the nation have the same protections as private-sector workers.

No workers should be denied the right to safe and healthy workplaces, least of all the public-sector workers we depend on to keep our keep communities safe and livable.
