Teach Native American History & Culture in School
Native people who inhabited the Americas suffered widespread genocide as Europeans colonized the continent before the birth of the United States.
Inside and outside of today’s classrooms, a myth exists that no Native traditions, peoples, and cultures survived colonization. This narrative is perpetuated when history books rewrite Native people’s experiences since Columbus’ contact in 1492. Now is the time to proactively recognize the first people—who remain central to who we are.
I support the representation of Native American history and culture in our schools.
