To meet the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse learners, it is essential to understand how culture impacts teaching and learning.

At a Glance

This course will approach culturally relevant pedagogy as a way of teaching that draws on the cultural knowledge, backgrounds, and experiences of students in order to make the learning more meaningful and appropriate to support student achievement.

  • Recognize the diversity within the ELL community and demonstrate the role this has on instruction
  • Incorporate knowledge of the role of culture in language learning into instruction
  • Demonstrate understanding of the funds of knowledge that students bring to the classroom and how to incorporate and build on students’ strengths and cultural backgrounds during instruction
