Mentoring 101

This course will introduce participants to the process of mentoring a new teacher.

At a Glance

This course will define what a mentor is and give a detailed explanation of the mentoring cycle. It will give the participant tools for building relationships with the mentee and explain the different roles and responsibilities of the mentor. Lastly, the participant will be given tools for diagnosing mentee's needs, planning for interventions, setting new goals, and reflecting on the mentoring process.

Outcomes

  • Build strong relationships with mentees.
  • Diagnose and prioritize mentee's strengths and areas of growth based on quantitative data and qualitative data, as well as Teacher Preparation Competencies and performance expectations.
  • Design and implement a coaching support plan to develop mentees’ knowledge and skills in content, content-specific pedagogy, classroom management and facilitation of self-reflection skills.
