SEAs, or SEAs in partnership with nonprofit organizations.

Sample Use of Funds

SEAs have flexibility to carry out a wide variety of activities consistent with their specific needs. Activities could include:

  • Supporting the implementation, replication, or expansion of effective science, technology, engineering, and mathematics professional development programs in schools across the State through collaboration with school administrators, principals, and STEM educators; supporting the development of a State-wide STEM master teacher corps.

Key Provision: Definition of STEM Master Teacher Corps 

A State-led effort to elevate the status of the STEM teaching profession by recognizing, rewarding, attracting, and retaining outstanding science, technology, engineering, and mathematics teachers, particularly in high-need and rural schools. States would be required to identify candidates for the corps based on content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, and success in teaching, and to offer master teachers opportunities to (1) work together in scholarly communities, (2) participate in and lead high-quality professional development, and (3) receive additional compensation for their contributions to improved teaching and learning in STEM fields.

Once you find a grant, make sure it’s appropriate for your intended use. Then, contact your local NEA Affiliate to organize an effort to hold your district and state accountable for how the money is used.
