United States Senate
Washington, DC 20510
Dear Senator:
On behalf of our 3 million members and the 50 million students they serve, we urge you to VOTE NO on H. Con. Res. 14, the FY2025 budget resolution—another step toward more tax cuts for billionaires, paid for by everyone else. Votes on this issue may be included in NEA’s report card for the 119th Congress.
This budget resolution will lead to potentially devastating cuts—in student loan programs, Medicaid, children’s health care, food aid, and more—to pay for the administration’s ramped up deportation machinery and irresponsible, budget-busting tax breaks. Meanwhile, Congress continues to ignore the rising cost of necessities—food, health care, child care, transportation, and more—that real people struggle with each day. The administration’s tariff war is likely to raise consumer prices even more, intensifying those struggles.
As you consider countless amendments later this week, we urge you to:
- VOTE YES on any that protect public education, school meals, SNAP, Medicaid and children’s health care, or Medicare
- VOTE YES on any that reverse illegal executive orders or rein in actions by unelected billionaires
- VOTE YES on any that make clear Congress holds the power of the purse and dollars appropriated by Congress cannot be withheld
- VOTE NO on any that cut public education, school meals, SNAP, Medicaid and children’s health care, or Medicare
- VOTE NO on any that undermine undocumented students’ access to K-12 or higher education, including the institutions that serve them
- VOTE NO on any that diminish access to postsecondary education, make repaying student loans less affordable, or privatize student loan programs
Again, we urge you to VOTE NO on the FY2025 budget resolution that funds tax cuts for billionaires on the backs of America’s students, families, and workers. Over the long term, it is counterproductive to slash investments in the students who are America’s future leaders and workforce. Yet that is precisely what this budget resolution contemplates.
Sincerely,
Marc Egan
