VOTE YES on the Right to Contraception Act (S. 4381)

Every woman deserves the right to determine what happens to her own body.
Submitted on: June 5, 2024

U.S. Senate
Washington, DC 20010

Dear Senator:

On behalf of our 3 million members and the 50 million students they serve, we urge you to VOTE YES on the Right to Contraception Act (S. 4381) to codify and ensure access to contraception nationwide. Votes on this issue may be included in NEA’s report card for the 118th Congress.

The United States Supreme Court first recognized the right to contraception more than half a century ago, in Griswold v. Connecticut. That right is now threatened. In his concurrence to Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Collective, Justice Clarence Thomas wrote that the Supreme Court “should reconsider” Griswold and related decisions.

Several states have already taken steps to restrict access to contraception—for example, by eliminating public funding for intrauterine devices (IUDs) and emergency contraception like Plan B. Those hit hardest include Black, Brown, Indigenous and immigrant communities, as well as LGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities, and low-income people.

Every woman deserves the right to determine what happens to her own body. Even in these deeply divided times, the overwhelming majority of Americans agree that access to contraception is a settled right.

Please VOTE YES on the Right to Contraception Act when it comes to the floor.

Sincerely,

Marc Egan
